Canada v Qatar – predictions and odds – 2026 World Cup (18/06/2026)

Group B of the 2026 World Cup is now entering a decisive phase following the first two matches, which both ended in identical 1–1 draws. After this deadlock, it remains to be seen who will take the lead in a group where finishing first or second makes a huge difference in terms of the quality of opponents in the knockout stages. The only host nation to have failed to secure a win will be looking to make amends in Vancouver against the Asian champions. Can Lopetegui’s side spring another surprise and secure their first World Cup victory?
The first match for Jesse March’s side was a slight disappointment for some supporters. It’s true that they still have some way to go before they can be considered a team with what it takes to go far, but they showed the footballing potential to dominate a Bosnia side that scored from a corner and then sat deep. The poor finishing of Jonathan David and Oluwaseyi following good moves down the flanks by Buchanan and Millar left more than a few fans frustrated. Thankfully, Cyle Larin came on and, showing great character, scored the equaliser. We’ll see if Alphonso Davis, the star and mainstay of a nation that is gradually producing new talent, finally gets some playing time. Provided they show a bit more of a nose for goal than in their debut, they should win.
For their part, the Qataris arrive on a high after securing their first-ever point at a World Cup. They achieved this in epic fashion against Switzerland in the 94th minute, thanks to an own goal. Perhaps a bit of a windfall, considering they managed just three shots on target throughout the match. But their organised defensive approach served to frustrate the Swiss, a side that has produced some fine moments of play in recent tournaments under the leadership of Xhaka and Freuler. Their main strategy this Thursday will once again be to rely on Afif up front and launch counter-attacks after setting up a defensive wall that leaves few spaces. If it worked against the group favourites, perhaps it could be repeated.
Analysing the expected tactics, it seems clear that we are not going to see a spectacular match. On one side, a team lacking in goals; on the other, one that prioritises not conceding over spreading out and leaving spaces. Given all this, the best possible option is to bet that we will see fewer than 3 goals in the 90 minutes; the odds are high and the likelihood of it coming in is also high.
