The five runners who make the race interesting
Taipan
Jessica Harrington’s eight-year-old carries top weight but brings one of the strongest Killarney profiles in the field. He is already a course-and-distance winner and was beaten only a nose at Galway on his latest start.
That combination of stamina and proven track form is important at Killarney, although giving weight away to the entire field is an obvious counterargument.
Immutable
Immutable has a much more favourable 9-4 to carry and arrives after finishing second in an 18-runner Galway handicap over 1m4f. Draw one also gives Gary Carroll options early.
The central question is whether that Galway effort translates to another two furlongs and change.
War Rooms
War Rooms comes here off a victory at Ballinrobe over roughly 1m5f. That makes him one of the few runners arriving directly on the back of a win rather than merely encouraging placed form.
The extra Killarney distance should therefore matter more than the raw finishing position alone.
Sir Jeremy
Noel Meade’s four-year-old is another last-time-out Galway winner and has just 8-9 before the rider’s claim is considered.
