Irish Guineas Festival 2026 @ 23.05.2026

The Irish Guineas Festival at the Curragh is always one of the defining weekends of the European flat season. With the Irish 2,000 Guineas, Irish 1,000 Guineas and Tattersalls Gold Cup sharing the spotlight, this meeting regularly produces future Royal Ascot and Breeders’ Cup contenders.

From a betting perspective, I usually approach this festival differently from a standard race-by-race card. Ante-post and long-range “Win / Place / Show” markets can offer genuine value here, especially when strong Newmarket form lines transfer well to Ireland.

Irish 2,000 Guineas

The Irish 2,000 Guineas looks set to revolve around proven mile form and tactical maturity. Historically, the Curragh has favoured colts capable of settling early before finishing strongly through the final furlong, and that profile fits several of the leading contenders this year.

Gstaad is the horse I keep coming back to. His Newmarket performance suggested he belongs firmly at Group 1 level, and the Curragh’s more galloping nature could suit him even better. I also think his ability to travel comfortably off the pace is a major asset for this track.

Irish 1,000 Guineas

The fillies’ Classic looks exceptionally deep this year, although the market understandably centres around True Love after her excellent Newmarket victory. I was particularly impressed by the way she travelled under pressure there — she looked composed throughout and finished like a filly who still has another gear to find.

Aidan O’Brien also has notable depth behind the favourite, including Precise and Beautify, which gives Ballydoyle enormous tactical flexibility. True Love, however, remains the standout for me because she combines pace with enough stamina for a strongly-run mile.

Tattersalls Gold Cup

The Tattersalls Gold Cup often becomes the race where established older horses meet rising stars, and this year’s edition feels particularly intriguing. The Curragh rewards rhythm and stamina at this distance, so I tend to favour horses already proven over ten furlongs in elite company rather than lightly raced improvers.

Minnie Hauk is attracting serious attention and understandably so. If she turns up in peak condition, she sets the standard, although I wouldn’t underestimate the value of experienced Group performers returning to the Curragh.

My betting predictions for the Irish Guineas Festival

True Love — Place (Irish 1,000 Guineas)

Coefficient 1.45

I simply struggle to see her finishing outside the first three if conditions remain normal. She already owns the strongest recent Classic form in the field, handles pressure well and comes from a yard that dominates this meeting year after year.

Gstaad — Win (Irish 2,000 Guineas)

Coefficient 3.20

This is the runner I believe could improve significantly from Newmarket to the Curragh. His profile screams “Irish Guineas horse” to me: strong cruising speed, tactical versatility and clear progression potential.
