Egnatia vs Shamrock Rovers (Europa League) odds and bets 13.08.2026

⏲️ Reading time: 7 minutes
Europa League, 20:00 @ 13.08.2026

Shamrock Rovers travel to Albania with something they did not have in either of their previous European away games this summer: room for error. The Hoops lead Egnatia 3-1 after an excellent night in Tallaght, meaning even a one-goal defeat sends Stephen Bradley’s side through to the Europa League play-off round. That changes the betting picture considerably. Egnatia cannot spend an hour feeling their way into this game; at some stage they have to take risks. For me, that makes the spaces they leave behind — rather than simply who is the stronger side — the most useful angle for this second leg.

A place in the Europa League play-off round is on the line. Irish reports have the winner of this tie moving on to face Lillestrøm, with progression also carrying major significance for Rovers’ chances of securing league-phase European football later in the year.

How Egnatia and Shamrock Rovers come into the second leg

Egnatia form

I would be careful about judging Egnatia purely on what happened at Tallaght. They were second best there, certainly, but their European numbers tell us why Bradley had been wary of them beforehand.

Their five continental matches this summer have finished 1-1, 6-1, 3-3, 2-2 and 1-3. That is 13 goals scored and 10 conceded, with both teams scoring in every one. At home they put six past Petrocub before drawing 3-3 with Celje. Egnatia are not particularly good at making matches quiet, which is exactly the problem when you begin a second leg two goals behind.

There is also a small physical advantage. They have not had another competitive fixture since Tallaght, whereas Rovers were back in league action three days later. I expect Egnatia to be aggressive, but aggression and control are two different things; the more bodies they commit forward, the more attractive Rovers become on the break.

Shamrock Rovers form

Rovers followed the 3-1 first-leg win by beating Dundalk 3-2 at Tallaght, opening up a ten-point lead at the top of the League of Ireland Premier Division at that stage. Across their latest five games they have three wins, one draw and one defeat, scoring eight and conceding six.

The performance against Egnatia was better than the scoreline. Rovers had 58% possession, won the shots-on-target count 8-2 and repeatedly caused problems around Egnatia’s box. Bradley was actually frustrated that the advantage was only two goals.

There is, however, an awkward number hiding underneath all that positivity: Rovers have lost both of their European away matches this season 2-0, against Floriana and Ararat-Armenia. I would not ignore that just because of what happened in Dublin.

Naj Razi is also out for several weeks after suffering a fractured jaw in the first leg. Cian Barrett left the Dundalk game on a stretcher, while Dan Cleary and Danny Grant had been targeting a return around this period, although their second-leg availability had not yet been confirmed at the time of writing.

Key factors in my Egnatia vs Shamrock Rovers prediction

1. The aggregate score forces Egnatia to take the first risk

This is the part of the market I think matters most. Rovers do not require another heroic away win. They can draw. They can even lose by a single goal.

Egnatia, by contrast, need two just to wipe out the deficit. If the score is still level on the night after 50 or 60 minutes, the Albanian champions will have to stretch the game further. That should increasingly suit Jack Byrne, Graham Burke and Rovers’ runners attacking the space left behind.

2. Egnatia’s European matches keep producing goals

Their five European games this season have produced 23 goals in total, an average of 4.6 per match. Four have cleared 2.5 goals and all five have seen both teams score.

That is not a statistic I want to use mechanically, but it matches the tactical picture here. Egnatia have shown they can score; they have also shown very little ability to keep the back door shut.

3. Tallaght exposed a real gap in chance creation

The first leg was not a smash-and-grab 3-1. Rovers produced eight efforts on target to Egnatia’s two and had 58% of the ball. Bradley’s side also created enough openings that both he and Jack Byrne came away discussing the chances they had left behind.

That matters because Egnatia now have to play a less comfortable version of the same opponent while committing more numbers forward.

4. Rovers’ away record stops me backing the straight win too heavily

This is where I disagree slightly with the market.

Paddy Power’s latest match-odds snapshot made Shamrock Rovers the narrow favourites to win the second leg at 11/10 (2.10), ahead of Egnatia at 6/4 (2.50), with the draw at 5/2 (3.50).

I can understand the pricing after the first-leg performance, but Rovers do not need to win this match and have scored zero goals across their two European away fixtures this season. At 11/10, I would rather bet on how the match develops than force a straight Rovers win into the portfolio.

5. Set pieces remain a serious Rovers weapon

Egnatia struggled badly when Rovers were able to put quality delivery into crowded areas in Tallaght. Jack Byrne’s service was central to the second-half spell that turned 1-1 into a two-goal advantage, and it gives Bradley’s side another route to goal even if possession is lower in Albania.

The number I find hardest to ignore is not Rovers’ 3-1 lead; it is Egnatia’s combination of 13 scored and 10 conceded in five European matches. There is plenty of attacking ability in this side, but very little evidence that they can chase a tie without exposing themselves. Rovers’ two 2-0 European away defeats stop me treating this as straightforward, yet those games began at 0-0 on aggregate. This one begins with Egnatia obliged to manufacture a comeback, and that should create a much more useful environment for Rovers’ counter-attacking and set-piece threat.

Egnatia have no choice but to go after this after losing 3-1 in Tallaght, and that suits Rovers. The Albanians have scored plenty in Europe, but they’ve also been far too open, while Bradley’s side showed in the first leg how dangerous they can be once space appears.

I can see Egnatia forcing the pace and Rovers picking their moments. Anything around 1.70 or better still looks playable to me.

Rovers created chances for fun in Tallaght and should get even more room if Egnatia throw bodies forward early. Byrne’s delivery and the Hoops’ movement around the box can hurt this defence again.

The only concern is that Rovers may manage the tie rather than attack it. At 9/4, though, I think the price is big enough to take the chance.
