Bohemians host Waterford at Dalymount Park with a place in the FAI Cup final at stake. Bohs arrive with five straight Premier Division wins, while Waterford have not played a competitive match since 18 September.

The main question is whether Bohemians’ superior match rhythm and home advantage outweigh a Waterford side that already beat them 3-1 earlier this season.

  • Kick-off: 7:45pm Irish time

Why Bohemians Have the Stronger Momentum

Bohemians arrive in excellent form after five consecutive league victories, including a 2-1 win away to Dundalk. They have also shown they can handle different types of cup ties, beating Longford comfortably before progressing past St Patrick’s Athletic on penalties.

Waterford were in good form before their break, including a 13-match unbeaten run under Graham Coughlan, but they will have gone 21 days without competitive football by kick-off.

Bohemians vs Wateford key factors:

  • Bohemians’ momentum: Five consecutive Premier Division wins.
  • Match sharpness: Bohs played seven days before the semi-final, compared with Waterford’s 21-day gap.
  • Dalymount advantage: Bohemians have home support in a knockout fixture.
  • Waterford’s threat: They beat Bohs 3-1 in August.
  • Goals: Both teams have been scoring regularly in recent matches.

Why Waterford Cannot Be Dismissed

The league table strongly favours Bohemians, but the head-to-head is much closer. The three meetings this season have produced one win each and one draw.

Waterford’s 3-1 victory in August is particularly relevant because it showed they can exploit this matchup. Their form also improved significantly under Coughlan before the recent break.

That makes this more complicated than simply backing the stronger league side. If Waterford settle quickly despite the long lay-off, they have enough attacking quality to make the semi-final competitive.

Match Outlook and Recent Head-to-Head

Bohemians have the stronger season-long numbers, with 59 league points compared with Waterford’s 34, as well as a much better defensive record.

The timing of the game strengthens their case further. Bohs arrive with rhythm, confidence and home advantage, while Waterford must immediately rediscover competitive intensity after three weeks without a match.

Recent meetings:

  • Waterford 3-1 Bohemians
  • Bohemians 1-1 Waterford
  • Waterford 0-1 Bohemians

Bohemians deserve to be favourites, but Waterford’s previous success in this matchup means the home win should not be treated as automatic.

Under 3.5 goals1.74

Bohemians are clear favourites, which is exactly what I expected given the league table, their five-match winning streak and home advantage. I would still be reluctant to chase the price much lower than its current level. Waterford are a better side than the 4.54 away quote might initially suggest, particularly given their long unbeaten run earlier in the campaign and that 3-1 victory in August.

The goals line is more interesting for anyone wanting a bigger return. Over 2.5 at 2.16 is consistent with the recent scoring output of both teams and can land alongside a Bohemians win, rather than working against my main match prediction.

I'm with Bohs here. Five straight league wins, home advantage and far better match rhythm are enough to get me on the hosts, even if Waterford's August win means this is unlikely to be a stroll.

I'm chasing a bit more value here. Both sides have been scoring freely enough, Waterford have already put three past Bohs this season, and I can see this opening up once the first goal goes in.
